Q&A: Why is my voice over IP phone service not clear?
Question by David L: Why is my voice over IP phone service not clear?
I use Net Zero Voice and lately I have been getting complaints that my voice is not clear. What is the deal? Is it the service? The head set that I am using? Or? What is the cost to get a converter to use a regular phone? Will this help make it more clear?

No it’s the internet connection that you have. It may provide high speed, but it’s not a reliable and steady signal.
In order for VoIP to work well you need at least a 90Kbps upload rate. That’s a sustained rate, and at that rate you are still only getting a 80% signal quality.
To test this try making a call either really later at night like after midnight or before five am in the morning.
There are some thing that you can adjust to help but 9 times out of 10 it is the connection.

There are many options with VoIP. As for getting a device to connect your phone to your pc or network would cost you about $ 100. I would recommend checking out Skype due to it being free if your calling another Skype customer or if your calling within the US then it’s only $ 30 a year for unlimited. they also have low international rates. When using Skype I have not had a problem with it thus far. There are many places to choose from but I chose them due to the vast options they offer for both home and office users. depending on the quality and needs of the deviece means what you will need to get. for me i would get the smc wifi phone since i want it to work at home, work, coffee shops, etc. but if you just need it for your computer then you could use a bluetooth earpiece so that you don’t have any wires and bluetooth has given me good quality.
