Seeking Help From an Electrician to Install a Physical VoIP Set Up

VoIP stands for Voice over internet protocol. Phone lines are not being utilized by VoIP, instead the usual standard internet ports on a computer are being used to carry out conversations. Electricians on the ideal setting have to be involved in every step of VoIP installation to make sure that the system will work at its optimum level of functioning alongside having an adequate backup power in the event of power shortage.

Using VoIP has many advantages which include the ability of not using a landline which subsequently reduces the telephone bills of clients and also the ability to make long distance and international calls, which is being regulated by the standard internet data rate. Electricians can be hired to assemble certain instruments or gadgets such as the (ATA) Analog Telephone Adapter that enables a usual telephone to an Ethernet port on a standard LAN router or in most cases broadband routers.

An ATA is a device which is responsible for the conversion of a voice into a digital signal that can then be sent over the internet. A card which is called the interface card containing an ATA is normally being used in order to accept the landline phone cable. This card is then connected to an Ethernet port of a computer. IP phones are known to have its own built in ATA for the conversion of a voice to its digital counterpart. IP phones are usually connected to a computer Ethernet port.

These words and terms may be alien language to people who are not inclined in this field of expertise thus working with IT personnel and electricians is necessary. The only know disadvantage of VoIP is that it is lost when power is off. But certain electricians and IT staff can devise a method that can ensure not only adequate bandwidth but secondary power supply as well.

How will you dial VOIP numbers from your normal phone while using an ATA?

Question by Sachin V: How will you dial VOIP numbers from your normal phone while using an ATA?
I’m planning to buy an ATA(Analogue Telephone Adaptor) for usin with my VOIP provider. But I would like to know how I can dial VOIP numbers like myname@sip.voiparound.com using the analogue phone. Thank you.

Answer by Mr. VoIP
VoIP adapters like my Linksys SPA2102-NA do not seem to support SIP URI dialing. It supports IP dialing but not URI dialing such as yourname@yourprovider.com.

My SIP provider, CallCentric, does support SIP URI dialing through their network. I tested it with their Speed Dial feauture and successfully dialed my URI number at InPhonex. But, for it to work, I have to use their online Speed Dial feature through my web based Dashboard on CallCentric website.

But, my Linksys SPA2102-NA will not successfully send SIP URI’s through their service. I consulted with CallCentric support on this and they concluded the ATA does not actually support URI dialing.

The Linksys SPA2102-NA is a very good ATA and I like it quite well. However, it doesn’t seem to support URI dialing. As yet, I don’t know which ATA’s will successfully support URI dialing.

Hi,
I already own a VOIP system in my place (VOIP directly connected to my IP phone, I don’t use any ATA or VOIP Gateway)

There are very few voip service providers who offer voip or foip fax service also. Actually, fax via this technology was not very successful. This is why good providers could not continue with this offer. I would not advise you to get Voip fax or foip as you will face many problems with it.

Help on finding a Voip IP phone?

Adam Asked: Help on finding a Voip IP phone?

I’m looking at completely switching to voip from my land line. I’m looking for a Voip ip phone that is cordless. I’m new to this technology, but I think it needs to be SIP compatible and unlocked. I’m not sure if I can simply get a router and have wifi cordless phones, or if I need to purchase an Internet phone adapter to use analog phone base that can support cordless phone. My main concern is highest quality with cordless phones.

Any help in this direction would be appreciated.

while cordless VoIP phones do exist, mostly WiFi versions, they are extremely cost prohibitive, and most people do not use them.. most people who want a cordless phone, or for residential VoIP customers, they generally get an ATA such as a linksys PAP2T or SPA 2102 then connect a standard telephone into this box…
