VoIP To Penetrate SMB and UC
Communication is vital to everything and everyone. Whatever mode is used, it serves as a bridge to connect the gap in between the sender and the receiver. You will greatly agree with me that in the field of business, may it be small scale or big scale, the role of communication is just as important as any other factor that keeps the industry rolling.
SMB or small to mid-sized businesses are little by little welcoming the innovation that is unified communications or is commonly abbreviated as UC. From the terms used, unified communications is where collaborations from different modes of technology are combined in order to function as one. With the existing variations and the presence of each of its capability to function, the connections that can be made and the communication that can take place will be able to go beyond boarders. It doesn’t matter what kind of gadget or device you have within your reach, as long as you are living the life with UC then it is safe to say that the possibilities for you are endless.
UniComm Consulting lets out a promise by saying “communications integrated to optimize business processes”. It is because SMB are attracted into utilizing UC for reasons that the tools used are user friendly and easy to work with. Such examples include social networking, instant messaging and even applications using the mobile phones. With that said, all types of communications to the IP network flushes the traditional multimedia down the drain. What we have here now is a multifunctional communication system that can serve you right whenever, wherever and however.
One hype that makes UC for SMB all the more effective is the technology delivered by VoIP. Voice over Internet Protocol allows SMBs to create phone calls using their IP network. All you need is a speedy internet connection and a reliable system to make things work. With VoIP present, the UC will yield decrease in cost and a dramatic increase in efficacy and productivity. Not that is what most business are going for.
As stated by a research conducted by Springboard Research in Australia, UC is still at the starting phase of development and yet surveys show that the business industry is supporting the trend. It would not take long before the system would emerge and become the big guy. Let us just wait and see.

VoIP Performance Management and Optimization
A KPI-based approach to managing and optimizing VoIP networks
IP Communications
Adeel Ahmed, CCIE® No. 4574
Habib Madani
Talal Siddiqui, CCIE No. 4280
VoIP Performance Management and Optimization is the first comprehensive, expert guide to managing, monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimizing large VoIP networks. Three leading Cisco VoIP experts bring together state-of-the-art techniques for ensuring that customer service level agreements (SLA) are consistently met or exceeded.
The authors begin by reviewing how VoIP is deployed in enterprise and service provider networks and the performance tradeoffs and challenges associated with each leading VoIP deployment model. Next, they present a comprehensive approach to diagnosing problems in VoIP networks using key performance indicators (KPI) and proactively addressing issues before they impact service.
In this book, you will find a proven tools-based strategy for gauging VoIP network health and maximizing performance and voice quality. You also will learn how to perform trend analysis and use the results for capacity planning and traffic engineering—thereby optimizing your networks for both the short- and long-term.
The authors all work in the Cisco Advanced Services Group.
- Deploy, manage, monitor, and scale multivendor VoIP networks more effectively
- Integrate performance data from multiple VoIP network segments and service flows to effectively manage SLAs
- Use performance counters, call detail records, and call agent trace logs to gauge network health in real time
- Utilize dashboards to analyze and correlate VoIP metrics, analyze trends, and plan capacity
- Implement a layered approach to quickly isolate and troubleshoot both localized and systemic problems in VoIP networks
- Optimize performance in networks where the service provider owns the “last mile” connection
- Improve performance when VoIP is deployed over publicly shared infrastructure
- Manage performance in enterprise networks using both centralized and distributed call processing
- Plan media deployment for the best possible network performance
- Monitor trends, establish baselines, optimize existing resources, and identify emerging problems
- Understand and address common voice quality issues

The Future Of Mobile Communications is WiFi and VOIP
Two of the most exciting areas in the field of mobile technology are WiFi and VOIP, two of the fastest growing segments in the communications industry today. Almost daily one can find new stories pertaining to one of these and how forward thinking companies are embracing the technology and building upon it. It seems that governments and communications companies all over the world are beginning to see the opportunity presented by WiFI technology. Ruckus Wireless and KDDI, Japan’s main telecommunications provider, announced on July 5th of 2011 that they were partnering to bring coast to coast WiFi for the nation of Japan. According to the press release from Ruckus, “Subscribers of KDDI’s packet flat rate plans can now use the new KDDI “au Wi-Fi SPOT” service free of charge with their au Android smartphones in over 10000 locations initially, scaling to 100000 locations by March 2012.” Barbados announced recently in Caribbean 360 that the island nation would have free nationwide WiFi coverage by 11-11-11, thanks to the work of the Barbados Entrepreneurship Foundation or BEF and their work with the government and communications companies to make this long time dream a reality for the Caribbean island nation with many others intending to follow suit. Damian McKinney, CEO of McKinney Rogers, a partner in the initiative, said they wanted the coverage everywhere, “from bus stop to rum shop.” McKinney said that the initiative to provide free nationwide WiFi …
