What are the pros and cons on internet telephone service?

Question by Let there be JIMBO: What are the pros and cons on internet telephone service?
My company is thinking to switch to a new phone provider that uses VOIP technology. It’s voice + data so conversations, they claim, are very clear. Does anybody have any knowledge of this?
It’s similar to Vonage, but I guess it’s more high quality?

Hey Jimbo,  I know about this.  My company just went with VoIP.  The only problem we seem to have is if someone calls you from a cell phone sometimes cuts in and out.  People also sound “far away” but not all of the time.  The VoIP phones we got have caller ID and tons of rings to choose from.  You can also delete the message from your email before you even have to listen to it (I am guilty of this.)  It will save your company a ton of money too, but I doubt they will pass the benefits on to the employees.. Most companies do not.

The New Friend In VoIP

When you describe a friend, it is someone who is always there. Someone who is willing to help sincerely and guide thoroughly. But when it comes to this, what we are talking about is no longer a “someone” but rather a “something”.

The “thing” that is at the peak of its popularity right now is the Voice Over Internet Protocol or VoIP. It has reached heights in just a short span of time because of the fact that it is simple and at the same time cheap despite it being a freshly out innovation. Practicality is on top of everyone’s list these days. This was the target hit by VoIP. It provides top of the line services but only charges minimal fees and are at reduced rates.

Moreover, VoIP makes tasks convenient for the users. It has a lot of features such as video calls, web conference, three way call, call forwarding, reverting, automatic redial and lots more. With the existence of internet wherever you go, a VoIP subscriber can readily check their bills online. But wait, there is more! While you are at it, why not pay those fees over the world wide web too. VoIP indeed knows how to help their loyal subscribers to save time and effort from intentionally dropping by the VoIP providers office.

Because VoIP became such a trend, not only it gathered patronizing clients but also paved a way for business opportunities. Providers also sprouted here and there believing that this is such a wise investment to venture into it. This follows that a number of people are given jobs in those offices and it gives the consumer a broader variety of VoIP providers to choose from.

VoIP touches a lot of lives may it be personal of professional. It can be used to communicate with relatives from far places or it can be a bridge that connects a businessman to his clients. Either way, its main goal is to render quality and reliable services to everybody.

As a friend, it is but natural to be scratching each other’s backs. So continue using VoIP and in return VoIP will carry on in doing what it does best.

What is the difference in broadband and VoIP phone service?

Question by : What is the difference in broadband and VoIP phone service?
I want to know about broadband phone service. What is difference between VoIP phone and broadband phone service. Which one of them is more beneficial.

Best answer:

Answer by Dunbar Pappy ϟϟ
VoIP is ‘carried’ over an Internet connection.
You must have Internet access (of which broadband is one flavor) in order to utilize VoIP.
For instance, Vonage is one VoIP ‘phone’ service, but you must have Internet, provided by an Internet Service Provider (aka “ISP”) first.
Satellite ISP, such as Hughes, would be one Internet service, which can handle a VoIP service.
Some VoIP services are free; others have a fee, which get billed separately from the ISP charges. Did you have any particular configuration in mind?

VoIP Phone Service and What It Is To You

Technology nowadays is very innovative. It is one of the things that always manages to come up with ways to develop new services in order to serve people better. One of the rising features it is currently offering is the VoIP. It is similarly known as the Internet Telephony or when in use of a broadband connection, it is referred to as Broadband Telephony. But no matter how you wish to name it, generally VoIP is a service provider allowing data such as a person’s voice to be delivered to a receiver through the ways and means of the internet. And that is possible how? Here it goes.

VoIP Phone Service is utilizing what already is present. You need no to go out of your way and install new devices. The internet has its own speech signals that is transformed to digital audio in the form of packets. Since it is sent via packets, security and privacy is provided. The audio message is divided into several parts with short periods and delivered over the internet. With that, receiving it does not require to be in succession making it hard for anyone to tap a conversation done using VoIP. It also come with features the same as that of a the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN). It has caller identification, call waiting and forwarding as well as creating conference calls. Because it is readily available, flexible and can reach a wide range, calls can be made directed to either another computer, a VoIP phone itself, a mobile phone or even to your traditional telephone. Moreover, this service is very accessible. Computers have become a usual device in every home. If not, computer shops are scattered everywhere. So all you need is get your hands on a computer and voila, you can call any number you want may that be local or international.

However, there are two sides of a coin. VoIP has its share of disadvantages. With the internet being accessible to everyone else, the traffic can be very bad. There is a high risk for packets to get lost and not be delivered thus creating a missing link in a conversation. With the networks getting all crammed up, VoIP may not be your messenger of choice. Nevertheless, you can always weigh the pros and cons and VoIP has better things to offer. It is cheap, time saving, effortless and provides more good than bad. So now, you already know what is good for you.

The router allows you to connect up to three PCs and two telephones or fax machines, and they’ll all share a single Internet connection through which you can smoothly transfer data of all kinds. While talking on the phone, you can still share a printer, make backups, or simply move your latest presentation notes over to your laptop. With easy Web-based configuration, all these options are available at the click of a mouse. Linksys backs the router with a generous three-year warranty.Amazon.com Product Description With Vonage, you can make phone calls over the Internet, potentially save on long-distance charges, and access a rich assortment of calling features. Plans start as low as .99 per month, and the Premium Unlimited plan offers unlimited calling to the U.S. and Canada for only .99. And it’s easy to use–for making and receiving calls, Vonage works just like traditional phone service, with no special access codes or account numbers required.

Easy Hardware Connections

All Vonage plans let you enjoy the call features you’ve become accustomed to: call waiting, caller ID, voice mail, call forwarding, three-way calling, call return, repeat dialing, and reliable long distance… plus other features that may be new to you. For example, you can receive your voice mail as an e-mail attachment, and you’ll have a phone number that travels with you. Visit www.vonage.com/amazon to see which plan is best suited to your lifestyle and budget. The low monthly rates are quite reasonably priced, in our opinion, and with them you may save considerably compared to traditional phone service. International calls are available for additional low fees, with one economical exception: calls from the U.S. to Canada are treated as domestic long-distance calls, rather than international ones. Vonage also supports short-form emergency 911 service, where available. (Dialing 911 requires activation and operates differently than traditional 911. See Vonage’s website for details.)

The starter kit comes with a Vonage-certified Linksys RT31P2 router, avoiding the need for a separate phone adapter. All you need is a high-speed Internet connection (cable or DSL) and a touchtone phone. After setting up your Vonage account, you’ll have instant access to two lines, each with a separate phone number–you can even assign them different area codes, subject to availability. You’ll still be able to surf the Web while talking on the phone or receiving faxes.
