How to receive incoming calls?
hmanton Asked: How to receive incoming calls?
I recently switched to VoIPo, a VoIP home phone service and I am having trouble receiving incoming calls. When I call my home phone number through my cell phone, my cell phone will ring and ring but the home phone will not do anything, no ringing and when I pick up the home phone, a dial tone comes on as it is not receiving the call at all. Help please!

did you recently port your phone number? it can take several days to several weeks for your number to be completely ported over..
during the porting process your outgoing caller ID on your new phone line will show your number, but your incoming calls would still be going to your old carrier, in which case you would need to get the temporary number from your current provider to forward your phone service from your old (current) provider to..
Jeff Answered:
That’s pretty typical, a timing issue with getting the new VOIPO service and when your previous land-line carrier releases the phone number. Another way to test is if someone who already has VOIPO calls your number, odds are your VoIP home service line will ring because the call is completely internally routed properly.

How to use computer as phone?
Dsi Cartuchos Asked: How to use computer as phone?
I have a computer, and about fifteen inches from it, there is a phone jack in the wall with a phone already connected to it. I want to disconnect the phone and connect the land-line cable to my computer and use it as a phone. Optimally, I would also like to take the phone and connect that to my computer simultaneously so I can answer a call using either the computer or the phone. once again, no VOIP!
I have a PCI modem card that I can install and use. I just want to know what kind of software I need to have.
Answers:
You can use PC as a headset for your mobile phone via Bluetooth, and you can use your cell phone to control your computer as well.
your computer’s modem has to have voice functionality
MOST don’t.
if it does, windows and the software with the modem will let it work for you.

Replacement for Home Land Line?
bennie Asked: Replacement for Home Land Line?
I’m in southern Indiana (USA). I have Vonage service for $20/month, which is pretty cheap, but I’m thinking I can do better. In our household we have 3 cell phones and the VOIP service. The only reason we have the VOIP is that many people know that number for us.
So, I want telephone service which is either a free or very cheap for incoming calls, and will allow me to transfer my existing number into the service. I don’t care at all about outgoing calls or international calls. My preference would be all calls go directly to a voice mail service and then receive a text message with the message transcribed and an e-mail with a wav file attachment.
Anybody know of any services like this?

what you can do is get a basic landline phone from the telephone company AT&T for about $16…or get the magic jack which IS a landline for only $20/year…number or not, you can just update everyone of what your new number is and have it forwarded to your cell phone through a free service like GOOGLE’s PHONE service…anyone who calls you at that number can have that call forwarded to your cellphone and save yourself the $20/month.In actuality, even landline phones are going up in prices, although they are the most reliable.Otherwise what you can really do is work it out with even GOOGLE to “port” your number over.Your phone number just needs to be “ported” over from another provider, since AT&T had to make ALL phone numbers available to all providers instead of having a monopoly over it…if not, you can go with MAGIC JACK and ask them about porting a number over.
Jeff Answered:
Try VOIPO. It’s a great service wherever you are in the U.S. At $149 for 2 years it’s a much better price. Even after you add in the FCC fees and taxes it’s still about $7.70 per month, much less than the $20 you’re paying now. And it comes with caller ID, call waiting, and a couple dozen other extras.

Can VoIP work using home network WiFi?
Brian Kuhn Asked: Can VoIP work using home network WiFi?
A few years ago, I used Vonage. I was told at the time, that a broadband connection was required in the home and I know this is still true today. However, I was wondering if you can now use your home network’s WiFi to use Vonage in the home because I know Vonage and Mobile Phone companies have made it so you can use Vonage on some of the more recent Smart Phones that have WiFi. So if you can use it on a WiFi enabled Mobile Phone, is there a way to use it on your home network’s WiFi?
(And, for the record, I don’t necessarily have to go with Vonage if there are other VoIP brands out there that will accomplish this if Vonage won’t/can’t, Vonage was just the first that came to mind.)
Also, I know that there is a difference between Vonage operating via a Smart Phone app and therefore being able to use Mobile Phone WiFi and home network WiFi and all that… I just thought maybe if they made it so you can use their service on Mobile Phone WiFi, they may have upgraded their products to run off of home network WiFi signals?

Can I send and receive FAX over IP (FOIP)?
Truth Asked: Can I send and receive FAX over IP (FOIP)?
Hi,
I already own a VOIP system in my place (VOIP directly connected to my IP phone, I don’t use any ATA or VOIP Gateway)
I just want to know if there is any way to send FAX to a traditional fax machine?
by the way, on my VOIP service provider there is nothing mentioned about Faxing
Answers:
your isp can set it up
There are very few voip service providers who offer voip or foip fax service also. Actually, fax via this technology was not very successful. This is why good providers could not continue with this offer. I would not advise you to get Voip fax or foip as you will face many problems with it.

Do VOIP phones using wireless internet give off same radiation as cell phones?
Kristin Asked: Do VOIP phones using wireless internet give off same radiation as cell phones?
My cell phone is giving me headaches on my right side (the side I always use it on). I want to switch over to a landline for multiple reasons including my concern for radiation from cell phones. I have looked at using vonage which connects the landline to your internet. We have wireless. Will that put off as much radiation to my head as my cell phone does?? Help.
Answers:
More like as much radiation as Wi-Fi does.
It’s very unlikely, by the way, that radiation from your cell phone is causing your headaches. If you have frequent headaches, maybe you should see your doctor.

Skype! Skype is a free service online (You need a computer/laptop and Internet connection. Plus a microphone or a webcam if you want to do voice chats).

Vonage VoIP phone service?
G2 Asked: Vonage VoIP phone service?
my dad got this vonage phone service where you get this thing and hook it up to your modem with ethernet cables and it makes call through the internet. In the instructions, it says to hook up your modem first then your vonage device and then your router. i was wondering if you could hook up the vonage device in the order: modem, router, then the vonage device from an ethernet port in the router and if that would make your internet speed faster or slower or no difference when people are using the phone?
Answers:
I would recommend hooking up modem-VoIP-Router so you don’t run into any firewall issues.
The Vonage modem is a pass-through kind of device for internet so it should not affect your internet speed at all.Like the other person said, if you connect your router to the cable modem first then you may run into problems like firewall, IP address, etc. and you have to know how to setup the internal configurations of your router.
