the cheapest is MagicJackt…..if you take the promo…its like 39.95 the first year! and 19.95 thereafter!
….I got Packet8, and I’m very happy with it! but before you do anything, go on-line to there forums at see what everyone is complaining about!!!
check out this website first before you make any decisions…!
perhaps try skype first, just to see if you like it!!
don’t spend to much money up front, remember…disconnection charges……, sending back of equipment….etc….if you port your phone-number…..with VoIP they don’t port it back to you!

No Activation Charge, and FREE VoIP phone Adapter. Also the international rates are great too, while Europe, China, and few others are FREE or .01cents minute.. thats right 1cent… while others are only .10-.15 cents/ minute

I am guessing that you live in the USA and if so I know of a voip service that is a world leader in the technology.
It will work of a standard broadband connection.
You can call normal landline, cell phones and other voip phones.
For a small monthly charge all calls over the USA, Canada, Puerto Rico and Hawaii are free.
Unfortunately here in Europe we haven’t got the service yet, however what I have listed has been given to me by friends in the USA who are using the service and they say it is great.
If you would like more information get back to me by email and I will send you an email address for the service, please make sure if you want me to reply that I can email you.
There are many factors to consider when choosing a VoIP service.
Do you want to VoIP over your PC, or VoIP like a regular phone without having to connect through your PC?
Do you want VoIP as a “Long-Distance Replacement”, or do yo want VoIP as a “Home Phone Replacement” service?
VoIP for Long-Distance replacement over PC, I use all the following:
Gizmo Project (Gizmo5), Skype, Efonica, Hotfoon, PcCall
All these have good (very low cost) world-wide international long-distance phone calling over my PC. No other hardware or purchases necessary to use them…. except for mic and speakers (preferably a good USB headset).
Pay-As-You-Go… No Contracts, commitments, or gotchas…
Otherwise, for “home phone replacement” VoIP with all the bells and whistles + 911 and Long Distance calling, you generally need to have an ATA VoIP adapter (or Router/ATA combo) connected to your Internet Modem/Router (usually purchased from your VoIP service provider). But, having an ATA adapter free’s you up to not having to use a computer to VoIP.
I use InPhonex and CallCentric as my “home phone replacement” VoIP services (links through my profile).
Most important is that both services are Pay-As-You-Go service… **No Contracts**, or commitments, obligations, or gotchas… Both have very low rates.
I purchased my 2-line Linksys PAP2T ATA VoIP adapter separately through VoIP Depot in Canada. Then, I programmed line-1 for InPhonex and Line-2 for CallCentric. Thus, I have only 1 VoIP box, but through it I am subscribed to two separate VoIP services…
I currently subscribe to the InPhonex “Lite-Line” for only $ 7.95/month, which includes unlimited incoming calls + all bells & whistles phone companies charge extra for + E911 + 2.5 cents for all outgoing calls to anywhere in USA/Canada/Europe.
They also have Unlimited USA/Canada calling package for $ 24.95/month…
With CallCentric, I have a Canada phone number for $ 1.95/month + 1.5 cent/min incoming calls and 1.9 cent/min outgoing calls to anywhere in USA/Canada/Europe, etc…
